boat

The old utility trailer. It is on the the trailer facing backward. I was worried about the rudder hanging out the back. The 3" PVC tubes attached to the front aka mounts & kept the main hull upright. It worked but, was heavy & I have to make changes when I wanted to use it as a utility trailer. It could be a hassel to load if I coundn't get right the beach.

boat

The new trailer from the rear. It is 14' long, cradle is 36" over all width is 4'6". the center rail is 2 Hobbie 16 mast ends spliced together, the cradle is 1" thick wall tube from an old yacht ladder, covered with split thin wall pvc pipe. the wheels are 8 X 480 from the hardware store. It is light, about 40#s I guess.

boat

Here it is ready to go except for the mast. I took it for a ride down the road & it seems to work. No borken welds yet. I will take it to the sea in the next few days.

This is the view from the front. It is easy to handle as a dolly.
the trailer has way too maney parts due to my design as I go style. I had the basic idea & started construction not knowing exactly what the details were or the strength of any of the materials. Some of the stuff in my aluminum scrap pile would not weld at all, some was very hard other pieces are much softer than I expected. That is one of the problems of working with junk. The good part is it exactly fits the boat & was very cheap I have about $100.00 in it, mostly the price of the wheels.
At the front end you can see the 1" stainless strap I bent in half & bolted sandwitch fashion through the track on of the mast section. I hook it to my hitch mount with a shackle. The toung weight is well under 100#s.
